What happens when the Preacher messes up?

Filed under: "Think" About It! — Kitina @ 1:10 pm

I didn’t blog about what has been happening with Bishop Eddie Long because I didn’t want to sensationalize the whole event.  Did he do it or didn’t he do it?  It is not my call I am not interested in the facts to be honest with you…whatever went down it is between him, the people involved and the Lord Jesus Christ.  However, I am concerned about the many people who are affected by the incident…No, not his church though I am sure they are greatly affected.  No, not his family which I know this had to take a heavy toll on them but I am concerned about the lost souls who are watching from afar, the people who are looking and searching for a Savior, the people who only see Christ through the people in the Pulpit.

Don’t get me wrong,  I know the man or woman of God are not to be idolized but we must understand that for many people they become the visible symbol of God.  We who are familiar with church, who grew up in the church or have been in it long enough to know what is really going on understand they and we are all fallible.  I hear it all the time “Christians think they are so perfect”, it is not about perfection or being saved…It is about striving and pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling!

To wrap this up, here is my opinion…Though a person in the church spotlight may be embarrassed by his or her sin I believe it it better to confess it rather than hide it.  The confession is for those who are dealing with the same demons, expose the devil don’t hide it.  We already know God will remove the sheets so why hide?  You can be an encouragement to people who need to see the transparency of the church and the Lord will surely forgive you.  There is no need to pretend, confess, repent and move on…We will save more souls if we are honest Saints.

This is my take…What is yours?

Rev. Clay Evans Passes The Torch

Filed under: Celebrity — Kitina @ 4:19 am

Founder of Chicago’s Historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church

May 30, 2010 @ 6:00 p.m. at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church

Chicago, IL: Since 2000, Pastor Charles Jenkins has been pastor of the historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church that was founded by Rev. Clay Evans in 1950. Since its inception, the church has been noted as much for its joyous best-selling gospel choir albums as for its stirring sermons. This Memorial Day weekend, the church will build upon its stellar legacy with a live CD/DVD recording entitled Pastor Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Live: The Best of Both Worlds – the first Fellowship CD with Jenkins at the helm.

Over the last five decades, Rev. Clay Evans, who ordained Rev. Jesse Jackson, has recorded three dozen sermon LPs and best-selling choir albums such as 1996’s #1 smash I’ve Got A Testimony. Jenkins is continuing the musical work Evans began back in the 1950s and it represents a Passing of the Torch  – musically – from the 84-year old Evans to the 34-year old Jenkins.  “The Best of Both Worlds is a celebration and presentation of the traditional gospel, CCM, and praise and worship music. This project is a hybrid of music we sang in the past, and music we are singing now in black churches,” Jenkins says. “The record is stuff you can sing on Sunday morning.”

As a musician and songwriter, Jenkins founded Chicago’s own Joshua’s Troop, and has collaborated with a stellar array of producers and artists. He also wrote “You’ve Been A Friend” on Israel & New Breed’s Grammy-winning Live in South Africa CD. The recording will take place Sunday, May 30, 2010 @ 6:00 p.m. at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 4543 South Princeton Avenue, Chicago, IL 60609. Admission is free.

Through the years, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church has become known as The Ship because of Evans’ longtime quote: “Its a friendship, its a kinship, its a relationship, what a fellowship, all aboard come on let’s go to the other side.” Now, after nearly 10 years of new leadership and 9,000 new members, The Ship reemerges and introduces a new generation in gospel music for all to enjoy.

BET Unveils Three New Videos For Mother’s Day

Filed under: Celebrity — Kitina @ 2:39 am

SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2010 @ 11:00 AM EST

Tracy Worth

Black Entertainment Television (BET) is celebrating Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 9, 2010 @ 11:00 AM EST when the Sunday morning staple “VIdeo Gospel” premieres three new videos that every mother will love.

A very poignant moment will be when the show broadcasts the premiere of Tracy Worth’s new video “Christ Is All.” The Chicago-based singer is best-known for her 2005 radio smash “I’ll Follow You” with Melvin Williams of The Williams Brothers. Since that time, she has endured a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. She’s also survived breast cancer and two rounds of chemotherapy. In one scene, Worth is looking in a mirror as she pulls off her wig to showcase the hair loss due to her therapy. She says that through her illness, she learned that “Christ Is All” for her and recorded the song in gratitude to God for her healing her. The song is now available for digital download on itunes and amazon.com

The Brown Sisters

Rev. Jasper Williams

On the same program, The Brown Sisters of Chicago will unveil the video for their Billboard Top 20 smash “Awesome God.” Set in a concert setting, the majestic song of worship features praise dancers  and a cameo appearance by their mother.

Rev. Jasper Williams is legendary in preaching circles and known as America’s greatest Hooping preacher. From the 60s’ through the `80s, he recorded two dozen best-selling sermon and gospel music LPs. It’s been over two decades since his last gospel project, so this July he will release the down home gospel CD Landmark. Recorded live at his Salem Bible Church in Atlanta, GA, the concert video of his first single is entitled “Down Through The Years.” “This is a song that all of the elderly church mothers will be waving their hats on,” says one fan of the song.
